veneer going on a tooth

Veneers

Are you embarrassed to smile because of imperfect teeth? Porcelain veneers can subtly conceal all manner of cosmetic issues.

Our practice provides high-quality porcelain veneers for anyone who lives in or around Lake Charles, DeQuincy, Kinder, and Sulphur, LA.

Find out how Dr. Jeffery Hennigan and his team can rejuvenate your smile with veneers starting at just $1,100 per tooth.

How Do Veneers Work?

Simply put, a veneer is a "shell" made to cover the entire visible portion of a tooth. Veneers are very thin, typically less than half a millimeter thick, and most commonly made from porcelain.

Because they can be used to conceal chips, cracks, stains, small gaps, and even more, veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment options available.

Though they aren't a permanent treatment, with good care and regular checkups at our dental office in Lake Charles, LA (or any of our other Louisiana offices), a set of veneers can beautify your smile for many years to come.

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Comprehensive Coverage

While dental bonding or teeth whitening can be great for touching up small blemishes, veneers allow our highly trained cosmetic dentists to completely transform your front-facing teeth.

Versatility

Veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells (about the thickness of a fingernail) that are carefully bonded to the surfaces of teeth. Every veneer we provide is custom-designed so these prosthetics can cover an incredibly wide range of cosmetic issues.

Natural-Looking Results

Our dentists plan every cosmetic procedure very carefully, ensuring that results are as lifelike as possible. In order to produce the most natural-looking smiles, Dr. Hennigan only works with a trusted dental laboratory that fabricates veneers from long-lasting, medical-grade porcelain.

Do Porcelain Veneers Ruin Your Teeth?

/

No. Only a small amount of enamel needs to be removed before a porcelain veneer can be bonded to a tooth. This does not affect the overall structure or integrity of the tooth or a patient's dental health.

Are You a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Many of our patients are great candidates for porcelain veneers placed at our offices in Lake CharlesSulphurKinderDeQuincy, and Moss Bluff. Candidates for this form of dentistry should:

Be in Good Oral Health

In general, candidates should be in good dental health and free of conditions like tooth decay or gum disease. If your teeth are severely decayed, we can help you with an appropriate restorative dentistry treatment beforehand. During your consultation, our doctors can examine your smile and recommend any procedures necessary to restore your candidacy.

Have Healthy Enamel

Placing a veneer also requires the removal of a small layer of enamel. If you don't have enough enamel for safe removal, your teeth cannot be prepared for this treatment. Fortunately, an alternative treatment like dental bonding or dental crowns could be a great choice for you.

Does It Hurt to Get Veneers?

/

No! Thanks to modern anesthetic techniques, patients rarely experience pain when getting a custom set of veneers. Even though a little bit of tooth enamel is removed, placing a set of veneers is a non-invasive and virtually painless process. However, if you have dental anxiety or an especially sensitive smile, we are more than happy to provide calming sedation during treatment.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

On average, an individual dental veneer at Lake Area Dentistry costs between $1,100 and $1,400.

Because they are an elective service, veneers are not covered by insurance. However, we accept CareCredit® financing to help patients afford cosmetic dentistry.

To get an accurate estimate of what dental veneers will cost you, request a consultation with our dentists.

The Veneers Timeline

Porcelain veneer placement requires two trips to our Lake Charles, Kinder, Sulphur, DeQuincy, or Moss Bluff dental offices. Our patient-centered approach means that your treatments will never be rushed. During your appointments, here is what you can expect:
Veneers can transform your smile in two office visits. We'll custom-design your set so each veneer looks and feels natural.

Consultation

The first step is to schedule a cosmetic dentistry appointment. During your consultation, one of our dentists will ask about your personal goals and explain the steps involved in the treatment.

Checkup

Your doctor will need to determine if you have sufficient enamel to support veneers. Once you are found to be a good candidate for porcelain veneers, your treatment can begin at that time or a later appointment.

Tooth Preparation

A small layer of enamel will need to be removed from your tooth to make room for the veneer. This step is known as “prepping” your tooth. Your dentist will first use local anesthesia to numb the tooth. If you are especially anxious about dentistry, we offer sedation options as well. Once you are comfortable, your dentist will remove the thin layer of enamel. We will then take scans of your teeth and attach a temporary veneer that you will wear until your permanent prosthetic is ready.

Fabrication

We only work with the best dental labs for the fabrication of veneers. Your dentist will work closely with the technicians to ensure that your porcelain shells deliver the results you desire. The shells will be shade-matched to blend in with your natural teeth. The fabrication process typically takes a few weeks.

Placement

Once your veneers arrive, we'll set a placement date at our Lake Charles office or another of our offices. First, your dentist will ensure that the dental veneers meet your expectations. Then, the doctor will prepare each treated tooth with a special etching compound. Finally, your dentist will attach the veneers to your teeth with durable dental cement.

See How Veneers Are Placed

After a small portion of enamel is removed, a veneer can fit snugly over the surface of a tooth. It will be bonded in place with special dental cement for results that last.

Caring for Veneers

With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for 15 years or more. Here are some tips for making sure your prosthetics last for as long as possible:

Use Non-Abrasive Toothpaste

You should avoid using any type of abrasive toothpaste, as it can affect the look of your veneers. Take care when flossing with veneers as well. Rough movements can cause the veneer to dislodge from the surface of the tooth.

Refrain From Opening Packages With Your Teeth

Veneers are strong, but once you have them, you should never use your teeth to pry open or tear packages or other objects.

Maintain a Healthy Smile

Maintaining good oral hygiene habits can ensure that your veneers do not become loose or dislodged due to underlying decay. Twice-a-year visits to our dental practice can also ensure that your teeth remain healthy and your veneers remain strong.

Plan for the Future

The shells will eventually need to be replaced. When they do, Dr. Hennigan can perform the replacement procedure at our Lake Charles, Sulphur, Kinder, or DeQuincy dental offices.

Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?

/

When properly fitted and placed, porcelain veneers should look and feel just like your natural teeth. The porcelain material is quite convincing. In fact, the natural-looking results are one of the reasons veneers are such a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure.
